>Am I liable if someone falls and gets hurt
while working at my house?
Not unless you trip them. First of all, we
are very safe and it is unlikely that anyone will get hurt at your
residence. AAWG is licensed with the Department of Labor and
Industries and this agency provides protection for employees that
are injured on the job and pays for their medical bills as well as
time loss. This State sponsored program protects the employee, the
employer and the homeowner.
>How often should I have my windows
cleaned?
It is a personal thing but clean windows
let light in the house and can contribute towards chasing away the
blues. I think a great schedule is outside windows quarterly and
inside whenever they start to look like they need it.
>How do you clean gutters and will you clean up
the mess?
We have several methods depending on how
far the roofing overhangs the gutters and the type of debris in the
gutters. One method is to use a gutter tool that attaches to the
end of a pole so we can pull the debris to us and remove it by
hand. Some times we use a blower to clear debris out of the
gutters. We are careful to prevent debris from going into your
downspouts and drains. We will clean up the mess.
>What do you think of Gutter Protection
Systems?
Gutter Protection Systems- We clean lots
of gutters with Gutter Protection Systems built into them. Many
companies sell products that they promise will eliminate gutter
cleaning. We don't believe any of them. The best products help
reduce maintenance. There are not any gutter products that do not
require maintenance. Many of these products are sold by
presentation with a fair amount of drama and comparable cost to
Granite Countertops. We hear from many customers who thought they
would never have to clean their gutters again. When their gutters
start running over they call the vender they purchased from and
find out that the contract they signed requires them to keep the
"Gutter Protection" clean, but they don't need to clean their
gutters. We service all brands of Gutter Protection.
>Do you recommend a Gutter Protection
System?
Most homes are better served by a routine
maintenance schedule. If you gutters are getting clogged regularly
then there is probably debris landing on your roof also. AAWG can
put you on our recurring maintenance schedule and take better care
of your roof and gutters for a modest fee and you can avoid the up
front investment of thousands of dollars.
>Do you pressure wash roofs?
No, we advise our clients against pressure
washing roofs. Pressure washing often damages roofs and reduces the
life of the roof because it washes off a layer of the roof.
We have pressure washers and use them for
cleaning concrete and rinsing siding and decks.
>How do you clean roofs?
We blow the loose debris from the roof
with commercial grade back pack blower. If there are clumps of moss
elevated more than half an inch above the shingle then we use a
plastic garden rake to agitate the larger clumps of moss, and then
use the blower again. Next in the process is to clear all the
debris from the gutters and spouts and the last step is to treat
the roof with zinc sulfate to kill and retard the remaining moss.
It takes about a month for the moss to change color and die. We
guarantee that all the moss will change color and die or we will
come back and apply more zinc. The wind and rain generally weather
away a significant portion of the remaining dead moss. This process
is widely accepted by our 10,000 + customers and many realtors
arrange for us to prepare their clients homes before sale or to
satisfy an inspector's request.
>Why should I have my gutters
cleaned?
Gutters need to be cleaned regularly in
order to prevent the debris from blocking the flow of water.
Clogged gutters are often the cause of water damage that can run up
high repair bills or remain unnoticed until an inspector finds the
damage and adds a complication to the sale of your home.
>Can you keep the birds from nesting in the vent
holes under my eaves?
Yes. Starlings are notorious for getting
through the screen that your builder installed to keep birds out of
your vent holes. We cut one quarter inch galvanized steel mesh into
strips and staple it to the outside of your vent holes. We have
never had any birds able to get through this heavier material.
>Will it harm my roof if someone walks on
it?
Some roofing materials are more fragile
than others and we are very familiar with the different types of
material and proper methods for walking on them. The real answer to
this is that allowing debris and moss to accumulate on your roof
does much more damage than carefully walking on the roof to
maintain it. We will certainly access your roof and determine if it
is able to sustain our walking on it.
>How do you keep from falling off the
roof?
We start out by hiring people with a
natural talent toward clambering on uneven surfaces and a high
level of agility. rock climbers, mountaineers, outdoor enthusiasts.
We hired GRAVITEC to train and supply our
technicians in the use of fall protection equipment (ropes and
harnesses). We also use high quality ladders with leg levelers and
stabilizer bars. We use Korkers ® brand safety sandals for
traction on slippery roofs. We train our people to think creatively
and look for the safest way to accomplish a job. We allow our
technicians to walk away from work if they cannot figure out a safe
way to get the work done.
>Will it ruin my paint if you pressure wash the
siding on my house?
When we rinse the siding on a house with a
pressure washer we use an extended wand with a wide angle nozzle
(40 degrees) and we hold the wand back from the house a substantial
distance (12 - 24 inches). If there is algae and mildew on the
siding we will often times apply 30 Seconds ® (bleach &
TSP) to the siding and let it sit for a few minutes before we rinse
it off. This process is as gentle as possible and still able to get
the dirt and grime off your siding. The older the paint the more
likely there will be some areas that loose a bit of paint. We
monitor this and will seek your guidance as to whether we try to
completely avoid any paint coming off, or if you are planning on
touching up the paint and want us to get the surface as clean as
possible.
